Weekend Pursuit: Storage, Doors, Purse, Dog Food

…in that order.

Last weekend’s mission:

1)  Get a [very temporary] storage unit to call our very own.

2)  Buy a new front door (current one has a crack all of the way up it) and new back door (current one is hideous and partly broken).

3)  Get a new purse.  Current one is a bottomless pit (literally).

4) Dog food.

By those standards, our weekend was wildly successful.

Bright and early Saturday morning we loaded up our 2 Rugrats and started the journey into town.  We need a storage unit to dump some of our crap in.  We have entirely too much “stuff” and some of it just needs to go away.  But that’s for another day.

I spied with my little eyes a Storage Unit place that was not too far from home and looked easily accessible.  The first unit we looked in was awesome… as we stepped inside, Hello World!  We could see sunlight peeking in with beautiful vines growing out from the top.  With so much awesome packed into one little container, we couldn’t envision selfishly keeping it for ourselves, so we saved it for someone else.  Eventually we came across a better enclosed 10×10 and made it officially our very own – yay!  We signed our life away on some papers while Declan wandered about the office doing as much damage as possible.

Don't let that innocent smile fool ya!

Owning (renting) a storage unit… Crossing that one off my Bucket List right now.

Then the real fun began.  A trip to Lowe’s!  Imagine the gleeful parenting bliss we encountered as we tried to have just one adult conversation amongst ourselves in Lowes while our kids were doing everything under the sun to not let us get a word in edgewise:

Lowes Shopping

These poor basket moneys are far from innocent.  One is attempting to flee from the bondage of a buggy strap and the other is offering encouraging words, such as “You can do it, Guppy!” and “Come free me when you’re done!” and “Keep trying, mom and dad aren’t looking!”. After trying for 20 minutes to communicate 2 words to the hubs, I stepped into the other aisle with my cell phone and did what any grown-up would do…. I frantically called my mommy!  Mom… “Brama Trouble”, as me and the kids have lovingly nick-named her, is almost always up for the challenges that comes with watching these two heart-attack-inducing creatures.  She came in a jiffy and took the kids away.

The hubs and I were never so excited to have a date in Lowes to look at doors with NO INTERRUPTIONS!  In fact, we were so thrilled that we even contemplated parking somewhere and taking a good long nap in peace, since that’s a rarity at our house.  But no… we had work to do.  We ended up buying a beautiful door (ON SALE!) at Home Depot after having a quiet, uninterrupted lunch at a Chinese place I would have never been able to take Food Allergy Boy to.  Thanks Brama Trouble.

The hubs so generously waited in the car at Kohls while I quickly searched for something that would serve as a decent purse.  Apparently I got something right, because later Declan said to me, “Mama, new purse? Thats a pretty purse, I very proud of you! You keep it.”.  I’m so glad you approve, son.  Byebye old purse with a bottomless pit, you will not be missed.

Back at the homestead, I walked in the door to find this scene:

Brama Trouble wrapped in a Webster sandwichAhhh, bliss.  I even conned Trouble into staying for homemade dinner and made her stay even later with the promise of freshly baked Oatmeal Raisin Cookies.  That mother of mine, she’s pretty gullible!  It was a great evening.

On Sunday we took the kids to Southern Agriculture where they terrorized small fishes and lizards while I agonized over what kind of dog food to buy.  That stuff ain’t cheap!

We thought we'd keep these two monkeys in the Zoo cages, but oddly enough, Southern Agriculture wouldn't let us walk out without them...

We also worked more on packing up stuff for our storage unit.

Packing up Old Records. We will get a record player one day, seriously!

Wrapping up my Angels... Didn't know what else to do, I'm no wrapping pro! I bubble wrapped them and put them in a container to put in a box. Overkill? Maybe!

The kids occupied themselves with "science experiments" and of course there's the ever-present photo bomber (AKA the dog).

We took a little break to eat and get groceries.

Next weekend’s mission… fill the storage unit!
